BDCU The Collective Impact supports Challenge Southern Highlands and  Welby Garden Centre with its new employment initiative.

Talk about helping the challenges of life. BDCU The Collective Impact has supported Challenge Southern Highlands with a grant of $9,500 to assist in the building of the Welby Garden Centres new cafe.

The Community Grant Program is part of BDCU’s broader social impact designed to focus on programs that support initiatives that focus on Health, Education and Social outcomes.

Head of People & Community at the BDCU The Collective Impact, Heather Denman, said “the Grants Committee were impressed with the café supporting positive outcomes for the clients of Challenge”.

“The committee was impressed with the application and the work Challenge Southern Highlands do in delivering employment pathways for their clients. What was also impressive is the significant fundraising to support the program that Challenge had done themselves. The committee were pleased to able to provide the co-funding necessary to ensure Challenge’s vision became a reality, Heather added.

Nursery Manager Justin Longhurst said “We’ve been fundraising for the cafe to add to the garden centre, as a destination for customers to come and enjoy a latte, whilst supporting the essential work we do. A big thank you to the BDCU for investing in the future… the cafe will be utilised by locals, visitors to the area, and garden clubs.”

The next café fundraiser will be at Centennial Vineyards on October 18, with dinner and two guest speakers — local producer and owner of Moon Acre restaurants, Phil Lavers, taking the earth and growing things in the Southern Highlands — and Paralympian Luke People to talk on his journey to the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. Tickets will be available from the Centennial Vineyards website, and we are also looking for silent auction prizes.
